ARLENE BOGNA
DIFFUSIONS

ABOUT DIFFUSIONS: A COLLECTION OF ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPHS
In the darkest dark, if you stay open, beauty will be revealed to you. So much emphasis is placed on how we want to things to be, it is refreshing to be able to see what actually is and capture it in a prolonged moment. By challenging my camera with low light environments I have been peering into the dark, and it has been peering back.

-Arlene Bogna, September 2007

This month the Artist’s Advisory Circle Spotlight highlights painter, photographer and award-winning film and video Director, Arlene Bogna.... Arlene explores themes of cultural identity and emotion in her paintings and photographs with a well developed formal interest in color and composition. You can see her experimental attitude and playful inventiveness in dealing with art and vision in some of her recent work..."

I find Arlene Bogna's abstract photographs to be very painterly, mysterious and appealing.

What I love about the piece that I acquired is the technique that was so intriguing. The movement and light quality and the composition. The piece has an energy about it that I can't explain. It stops me every time I pass it. It is truly a wonderful addition to my collection.

Arlene Bogna's photographs speak of the hidden world that lurks in the dark. Her piece entitled, “The Abyss” is powerfully sensuous and provocative. Psychologically, it toys with the pleasure center of the brain, enticing the viewer with a fleeting glimpse of dreamy, sensuality, while simultaneously appealing to one's sense of hunger or taste. It reminds me of the proverbial, “Forbidden Fruit” that beckons us to take a big decadent bite! It’s painful to deny, “The Abyss”.
